BANSHEES HISTORY
Founded in 1979, the Ottawa Banshees are the oldest women’s rugby club in Ontario.
For 40 years, the Banshees have been committed to providing women in the Ottawa area with opportunities to play rugby at both the competitive and recreational levels. The Banshees have participated in various leagues over the history of the club. In the early years, the Banshees competed in the Federation du Rugby Quebec (FRQ), winning the FRQ Division II Championship in 2001. In the early 2000s, the Banshees participated in both the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union Division 1 and the Ontario Rugby Union’s women’s Superleague. In 2011, the Banshees returned to the FRQ where they enjoyed an undefeated season.

In 2002, the Banshees RFC amalgamated with the Ottawa Beavers RFC. The merger paired the two oldest clubs in Ottawa with each other to create the Ottawa Beavers & Banshees Rugby Football Club (OBBRFC). In addition to providing very competitive rugby for all of its members, the OBBRFC provides players with many social events throughout the year.

Over the past 40 years, the Banshees are proud to have provided the opportunity for many players to pursue rugby at an elite level. The following women have represented the Banshees on provincial and national teams since 1979:
