After several long years, the Beavers and Banshees finally returned to regular season competition this weekend with a triple header at Twin Elm.
The women hosted Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue in a hard-fought and high-scoring match in the sweltering heat. There were several players making their Banshee (and rugby) debuts and we've already started seeing some big improvements since our pre-season exhibitions over the past few weeks. Although the women didn't take the win, we dominated the scrums and line-outs and are keen to get back to work in preparation for our next match with an offensive bonus point in hand.
The men's 1st XV hosted the Saint-Lambert Locks and sought to make a statement by opening their season with an exceptionally strong showing. It was hard to keep track of all the scoring (sorry if we missed you below!), but the men's hard work over the past few months paid off with a decisive win over the Locks.
The men's 2nd XV was supposed to host the Valcartier military team, but a mid-week forfeit had us pivot to an exhibition against Beaconsfield 2s. Beaconsfield was also a game-time cancellation, but thankfully we had over 50 players available on Saturday so we played Red vs White Beavers intrasquad (rugby WILL happen no matter what!!!). Hot day but a good time was had, with the White team taking the victory. Special mention goes to all the new players who wore the Beavers jersey for the first time this weekend, especially newcomer Graham who had terrific 50m run to score his first try against the Reds.
