RETURN TO PLAY UPDATE
As many have likely seen, Rugby Canada announced a return to play update yesterday.
As part of this update, they have lifted the nation-wide freeze on sanctioned club activities so that each province may now begin initiating return to play protocols according to their specific circumstances.
Some provinces, such as Manitoba, will see some rugby returning almost immediately given that they have had limited outbreaks within their jurisdictions. This, however, is not the case in Ontario, and the province-wide freeze remains in effect until further notice.
As far as we understand the next steps, Rugby Ontario will seek authorization from the Ontario government to initiate its return to play activities when the current restrictions are sufficiently relaxed.
Each member club (including the OBBRFC) will have to submit its own return to play measures in order to be re-sanctioned by Rugby Ontario to resume rugby activities, which will then be phased in gradually.
The OBBRFC Exec have already drafted up our return to play protocols so that they should be ready to submit as soon as circumstances allow. As we finalize these materials over the coming weeks, we will share them so everyone can be aware of what to expect as we move forward.
So although Rugby Canada's update does show progress, we must all stay tuned and await further instructions for a while longer before we can head back out with one another for some rugby.
