GAME RECAPS: AUGUST 7-10
The Junior Beavers played a Wednesday night game against the Bytown Blues this week. The Blues put up some points, and then the Beavers started to charge back as discipline began eroding Bytown's composure. The boys were on the verge of a comeback, and then the ref called the game shortly after the second half due to relentless backtalk from the Blues (including a yellow card, and then a red card for a punch to the head). The result of this game is still under review with Rugby Ontario, but regardless of the outcome our boys played honourably, and the Club is proud of them for it.
Due to some administrative tomfoolery, the Senior Banshees wound up scheduled to play a home-and-home series against Nomstown to determine who would be relegated from the Provincial 1 Division. Nomstown has forfeited both games, so the women claim two victories to cap off the year.
The Senior Beavers 2nd XV went to Mont Tremblant for play-off semifinals. The squad fought hard against a strong Tremblant side but ultimately came up short by a few tries.
The Beavers 1st XV went to Montreal to play the Wanderers. The boys came out firing with two quick penalty kicks and outplayed the Wanderers for most of the game. However, penalty trouble caught up with us that cost us a red and yellow card in the last 20 minutes of the game. We were up by 1 point for the last play of the game, when a lost scrum and breakthrough try ended the match in the Wanderers favour. It was a tough pill to swallow, but our solid performance is nonetheless a testament to the development of the men's program over the past few years.
