This was the biggest weekend of the season for the men, coming up against an undefeated Westmount 1st team side that is sitting at the top of the table, and who beat us at home earlier in the season.
The Beavers 1st XV weathered some early pressure from Wesmount, including holding them scoreless with our fly-half in the bin for 10 minutes around half time. Once we were back to full strength, we started to put the pressure on and we thoroughly dominated the second half, scoring three tries and coming ever so close to a bonus point fourth try. It was all-in-all one of the best on-field performances the firsts have put together in recent years.
The Beavers 2s took an early lead and kept pushing the game throughout. We had fewer men available than we have had for many of our second team games this season, and the guys showed that they have what it takes to play from start to finish if we need them to.
With the wins, the firsts are now sitting just a few points behind from first place in the league with two games left in the season. With their fifth win in a row, the 2s are also just a few points out of second place, which would secure them a home semi-final.
The Banshees hosted CRQ II, who brought the toughest scrum they've come against all season. The first half was a rough start, but the women doubled down for the second half and made CRQ work for their win (plus a breakaway try from Rachel). The Banshees continue to drive forward with great team spirit in the face of some tough competition, and they've got a deep bench gaining some hard-fought experience.
Both Junior squads travelled to Kingston this weekend to play the Panthers, who always field some strong opposition against us. The Junior Banshees showed some great improvement against Kingston, and the first three quarters of the game were well-fought. The heat started wearing the girls down for the final quarter or so, but the score certainly doesn't reflect the gains that the team has made over the past month.
Kingston took an early lead in the Junior Beavers game with a few tries, but the boys fought back to tie it up. Unfortunately, the Panthers pulled ahead by a few tries to end the game. Overall the boys put on a vast improvement when they hosted Kingston a few weeks ago. Solid effort from the Beav Nation.
